Mansfield College Crest

Mansfield College

Welcome to Mansfield! Mansfield is a friendly, inclusive, tight-knit college built upon the ethos of openness and accessible education. Founded in 1886 (making us the same age as Coca-Cola) we have a beautiful site just off from the centre of Oxford. Our open quad and eclectic student population create a welcoming environment.

Food

Mansfield is known for its good food. The typical meal in hall costs £3.20, but there are also on-site kitchens available to all students. Our dining hall is arguably one of the most beautiful in Oxford, as it is also our college chapel. Our twice-a-week formals sell out quickly, and hall is on a pay-as-you-eat system, meaning you can use it as much or as little as you want – although after the first time, many choose to keep on coming back (especially for Sunday carvery).

Accommodation

College offers accommodation to all freshers and third years. In your second year, you move in to private rentals (usually in the Cowley Road area). Many choose to live with friends. In college accommodation, we have a random allocation of rooms all at the same price, and each student is either granted a smaller room with en-suite bathrooms or larger room with a shared bathroom. In January 2016 we began work on a new building which will provide more student accommodation on site, meaning that all Mansfield undergraduates will be able to live in College-owned accommodation from 2017 onwards.

Extracurricular

There is a vast range of sports and societies at Mansfield. For some sports, we team up with Merton, creating the formidable M&Ms. There is an active student community, with no inter-year boundaries, and regular college events such as our pub quizzes, open mic nights and college bops to ensure your time at Oxford is not all work! These are mainly held in our Crypt – where you'll find the college bar on one side, and a relaxed café environment for chatting with friends or working on the other. The College Entz also provide tickets for club nights and events outside of the college throughout the year.

Welfare

Welfare tea is held each week, with trained student representatives available throughout the year for confidential support. We also have a college family system, in which you are assigned a college ‘mum’ and college ‘dad’ from older years, meaning there is someone looking out for you in an informal capacity from the moment your place is confirmed. Mansfield is a great place to experience everything university and Oxford has to offer, and with our new college cat Roger Bacon having just arrived*, there never has been a better time to be a part of the college. (*Roger Bacon the cat sadly died on 01/01/16, RIP Roger)

I didn't think that Oxford was for me but when I visited Mansfield I immediately felt like I'd found a home. Two years later, it's still the best decision I ever made.
Emmeline, Oriental Studies, 4th year
Why Mansfield? Oh, because it feels like a home away from home.
Natalie, Materials Science, 3rd year
Mansfield has valuable and effective financial support and bursary systems, as well as a sports fund and an undergraduate academic grant.
